Despite strong community opposition, graffiti mecca 5 Pointz will meet the wrecking ball by September 2013. The Sunnyside Post brings word that at a community board meeting last week, property owner David Wolkoff laid out his plans for two high-rise residential buildings. The towers, 47 and 41 stories tall, would contain 1000 rental units, and there will be 25,000 to 30,000 square feet of retail space. Up to 60 percent of the units would be one-bedrooms, 20 percent would be studios, and the remaining units would be two-bedrooms or lofts. Currently, there is no plan for any of the units to be affordable housing; all would be rented at market rate.
sadly, i guess the countdown has officially begun. an absolute shame.
