Author needed for historic pictorial of Queens →
sounds like a pretty dope writing gig. while i am an expert on queens smoky arabic hangouts, queens soccer pubs, queens empanadas, and queens vandalism, i am, sadly, not an authority on queens history. still, for the above reasons, i should get this job.

In multi-ethnic Queens, fast food joints reach...
In Queens, a sampling of food to go can take you on a culinary trip around the globe - from Filipino noodles and specialty sandwiches from California to Korean fried chicken. The borough is fast becoming a hotbed of unusual franchises because of its ethnic diversity, which appeals to chains trying to gain a foothold in New York City. …The borough’s diversity and its array of ethnic...

Borough's first Harvest Food Co-op set to hit Long...
A group of western Queens residents are bringing the motto “will work for food” to life. Fed up with the dearth of inexpensive local produce in their neighborhoods, they’re creating the borough’s only food cooperative in Long Island City. Their goal is to have the Queens Harvest Food Co-op up and running on member labor by the fall of 2011. “We hope the food...

New York City’s most diverse borough has plenty of pizzerias, from old-school slice joints like New Park Pizza in Howard Beach and brick-oven spots like Nick’s in Forest Hills, to ethnic interpretations like bulgogi pizza. I thought bulgogi pizza was the strangest take on pizza I’d ever find in Queens, then I happened upon Union Amore Brick Oven Pizza Hookah & B.B.Q. Lounge...

He is the first openly gay elected official to represent Jackson Heights, Queens, a neighborhood known for its diversity of people and cuisines that enjoys a more obscure distinction as a haven for gay men and lesbians. At first glance, it might seem incongruous that gay people would find acceptance in a place that is home to large populations of South Asian and South American immigrants, who...

Every chemical engineer in New York City was born in a foreign country. Two-fifths of the city’s accountants and auditors and more than one-fourth of its chief executives are immigrants. In the three neighborhoods with the highest concentrations of immigrants, Ecuadoreans outnumber residents from any other country. Those are a few of the facts about the role immigrants play in the city’s...

music, states of happiness, mythology, faces belabored by time, certain twilights and certain places try to tell us something, or have said something we should not have missed, or are about to say something; this imminence of a revelation which does not occur is, perhaps, the aesthetic phenomenon. -jorge luis borges

n train gossip  →
i don’t really like twitter, the n train, their grammatically incorrect bio, or the shots they take at the churro lady, but here is some new astoria-based meme twitter feed that warns astorians (and presumably 7-trainers who cross the platform stix aka queensboro plaza) to ‘watch out.’

From Afghanistan to Sunnyside Kebab Cart →
i must say, i have never tried the halal cart at 46th street. i frequent 2 great ones in midtown east for lunch (xpl and kwik meal) so usually i opt for something else in the ‘hood. nice little profile though, will be giving the chicken and falafel over rice a try there soon.
